Crossing the Line

January 27th, 2012 by boojam
flashydubai.com Went down to Dubai last night on flydubai. Cheap and cheerful. Took 80 mins. Arrived at terminal 2. Oh dear what a contrast with terminal 1. Long, long queue at passport control. All the other queues seem to move faster than the one you standing in. It took almost as long to get to the front of the queue as the flight took. Bonkers. So, mustn't dwell on the negative. But while we're on about queues, why is it that there is always some insensitive goon behind you, who has no awareness of personal space and constantly bangs into you. As soon as I ...

Singapore Politics

January 27th, 2012 by bu ziyad
IT IS a proud boast of Singapore that this very small but immensely wealthy city-state is the least corrupt and best place to do business in the world. And a chief reason for that, at least according to the politicians, is that they themselves are by some way the highest-paid elected officials in the world. Why would a minister bother with corruption, so the argument goes, when he can take home S

The Power of Introverts (!)

January 27th, 2012 by intlxpatr
For my friends who – like me – are introverted. :-) We’re OK! From AOL/Huffpost Healthy Living, an article you will love!   Gareth Cook (Click here for the original article   Do you enjoy having time to yourself, but always feel a little guilty about it? Then Susan Cain’s “Quiet : The Power of Introverts” is for you. It’s part book, part manifesto. We live in a nation that values its extroverts – the outgoing, the lovers of crowds – but not the quiet types who change the world. She recently answered questions from Mind Matters editor Gareth Cook. Cook: This may be a stupid question, but how do you define ...

Winter Beach in Pensacola

January 27th, 2012 by intlxpatr
We had great weather during the Doha reunion, great in that it was warm every day, and it only rained a little now and then. We had lots of sunshine, and they even got to experience a little bit of Pensacola sultriness. The big thrill, for me, was the winter beach. I love good wave action, and a little drama in the sky. The Pensacola beach, with its gorgeous white sands, gave it to us in full:

‘What are we up to today?” one of the Doha reunion visitors asked as we sat around the breakfast table at the Shiny Diner. “I was thinking a drive into Alabama,” I threw out, “Or is there anything you have heard of you would like to visit, or re-visit?” “I’ve never been in Alabama before!” one guest enthused. “I could cross it off my list!” We dropped one friend off at the airport, said our farewells, and headed into Alabama. For those of you who are thinking it might be a long trip, Pensacola is close to the border; 20 minutes later we were in Alabama. “Where are we ...

Slow Moving Severe Weather

January 26th, 2012 by intlxpatr
The last of my Doha friends left yesterday, not without moments of hilarity. We had a great time together, and all my concerns about visiting Pensacola in the coldest month of the year were for naught. The weather, every single day, was in the 70′s, and one of the days it almost hit 80. One friend was flying straight into severe weather, and I wonder how it affected her day – if she even got home. We had one lovely evening when our son and his wife and little happy toddler came over, laughing and talking, and our sweet daughter in law introduced all my friends ...

January 26th, 2012 by Confashion
I have been recently invited to attend the official opening of Terracotta Boutique, located at Al Tilal Complex, but due to prior commitments, I couldn't make it to the event. So last night my friend and I decided to pass by especially after seeing a sneak peak of the boutique by fellow blogger q8arteriors and November's blog.We were immediately drawn to the boutique's lovely window display, which you can have a look at, small part of it though, on my Instagram account (follow me @confashions). The place felt very cozy with a beautiful scent of fresh soaps and scented candles, even though I haven't seen ...

Flavor of the Day: Celestina's Colorful Clutch

A hand-painted clutch?1? So this is how to literally carry a piece of art in your hand.  The stingray hand-painted clutch by Celestina is colored with bright shades and abstract design. Such an exquisite piece and a definite conversation starter! I spotted it at AlOthman Outlet, located at Mariam Complex in Salmiya, and it's original price was KD 319, and now it's only around KD 96, if my memory doesn't fail me.

I’m leaving to London early Friday morning for a week. It’s going to be a chilled out vacation and so far I’ve got the following things planned, all of which I haven’t done before: - Cadbury World - Stonehenge - The Newman Arms - G Kelly Pie - The Last Tuesday Society - The Hideout aka Trisha’s - Cabman’s Shelter - Bicester Village Still trying to find an interesting castle to visit. Oh and I need to walk through Hyde Park. For some reason I haven’t done that yet. I’ll be staying at Easy Hotel in Paddington again since I had a good experience the last time. I’m going for a slightly larger room ...

Doha Reunion and Marching Madness

January 25th, 2012 by intlxpatr
We just finished a five day Doha reunion, a group of us who used to gather frequently in Doha, ironically  most of us introverts, but who found gathering together forced us to exercise regularly, helped us to run our errands downtown, and helped us laugh a lot at our own foibles in a strange land. It’s not all that often you can find four women who all get along equally well with one another, but this group was that rarity, and having them in my house was a joy. We were together in worship and in friendship for several years, so having another opportunity to ...

I tensed.   Remain silent.     Distant but absurdly quiet, Your nestled in my heart.   Two hearts in the same room. Growing silence.   Gently absorb the discomfort.   Four eyes close.   Lips curl upward. My lips are apart. A word is longing for rebirth. I bite my lip to close.   Begin again.   The blood is comforting.   I suck at my wound. Slow and soft. You close your eyes,     Your beautiful Your beautiful Do you know that you really are beautiful.   Moist eyes begin. I want to feel again.   Interrupt my circulation. Pause the blood flow.     Open my heart. I will let you crawl back in.     Momentarily, I wanted to ...

I’m hardly ever the one to lose her mind over almost identical two pieces of the same collection but when I saw theses stunning cocktail dresses from Peter Pilotto's cruise 2012 collection at AlOthman, I had the hardest time to decide on which one to go for.  The sharply tailored cocktail dresses with defined waist are covered in blurry abstract prints of red and blue. Hung next to each other, they reminded me of the power of fire and water, so strong and captivating. What I loved about these dresses too, is the way the dress hugs you at the waist and then goes to ...

The luxurious car show Concours d’Elegance is going to be held for the third time in Kuwait next month. Like the previous years, it going to be an important and prestigious event that will attract people from both inside and outside Kuwait. What is the Concours d’Elegance? Concours is a French word meaning competition. The concept of Concours originates in 17th C. France when aristocrats used to choose their best horse carriages to parade around parks of Paris during the summer week ends and holidays. Later these traditions changed to automobiles from the 20th C. Concours today have strict regulations and cars are inspected by qualified judges. ...
